What is Psbot? Picsearch is indexing pictures from the web. To do this we use a web-crawler which identifies itself as 'Psbot'. Load spreading technique Picsearch utilizes a load spreading technique which reduces the load on the indexed domains' web-servers. The effect is that then the web-servers will have several minutes between requests from Picsearch. Although Picsearch is up and running, there is still development work in progress, and it is possible that a webserver will occationally have shorter intervals between requests. How to avoid being indexed If you do not wish Picsearch to index your pictures please add 'psbot' to your robots.txt file according to the The Robot Exclusion Standard (example provided below). If you do not have access to the robots.txt file Psbot also obeys the robots meta tag (example provided below). robots.txt example: Include the following in your robots.txt file: User-agent: psbot Disallow: / META tag example: Include the following in the head section of your web-page: Read more --------------------------------------------- http://www.picsearch.com/menu.cgi?item=Psbot -------------------- **Nikki Po** Nadine (Bunny) DuBoisPosted: Nov 21 2003, 01:11 PM Member Group: Members Posts: 18 Member No.: 91 Joined: 15-November 03 QUOTE (Nikki @ Nov 21 2003, 12:19 AM) Checking my logs today,Look what i found. Nadine (Bunny) its a mystery to you n mePosted: Nov 21 2003, 06:56 PM Member Group: Members Posts: 13 Member No.: 18 Joined: 6-November 03 robots are robots are robots are robots. Robots have ALWAYS been around, and allways will be. Read up on them at the sites I mentioned in the other posts. Read up on how to block them. Robots will not go away. They are how the net and search engines work. New ones are being created every day. They have always visited your sites, but you are only now realizing them becuase everyone is on edge, watching error reports and web stats like a hawk. Do you all realize that VD are prob having a ball laughing at everyone paniking over every robot, thinking that its then harvesting your website. Come on people, lower the guard a lil, relax, take a breath and BLOCK ALL THE ROBOTS if it will make you feel any better. Trust me, I have read more on robots recently, and learned more than I EVER care to know about them, and that is all these things are, is ROBOTS. They will not go away unless you add the script to MAKE THEM go away. And then, only some obey those restrictions. But seriously, ROBOTS ARE NOT HACKERS. go to hotbot.com do a websearch...guess what, thats inktomis slurp that powers that particular search engine. Ok, Im getting off my soapbox. I just am growing tired of seeing everyone in a daily panic over robots. as for the psbot, ever heard of googles image search, or the google image-bot. its practically the same exact thing. that is all psbot is. It says so right in the description you pasted about it. Read first, study up on stuff before paniking and posting. NikkiPosted: Nov 21 2003, 07:07 PM Advanced Member Group: Members Posts: 115 Member No.: 13 Joined: 5-November 03 I am well aware that robots have been around. I also feel we all need to take every step available to us to stop them. If you are comfortable with your web site..thats fine and dandy, but others that are just learning about the robots.. and just might be interested to learn more on them. So get off your soap box I could CARELESS what the VD is doing..laughing ..who the shit cares. We are aware of them trying to access our sites now. -------------------- **Nikki Po** NikkiPosted: Nov 21 2003, 07:12 PM Advanced Member Group: Members Posts: 115 Member No.: 13 Joined: 5-November 03 Ok, Im getting off my soapbox. I just am growing tired of seeing everyone in a daily panic over robots. If you are tired of reading about robots..ignore the ones that tire you out as for the psbot, ever heard of googles image search, or the google image-bot. its practically the same exact thing. that is all psbot is. It says so right in the description you pasted about it. Read first, study up on stuff before paniking and posting. You are Wrong..google does not download all your images to your harddrive.. -------------------- **Nikki Po** its a mystery to you n mePosted: Nov 21 2003, 07:13 PM Member Group: Members Posts: 13 Member No.: 18 Joined: 6-November 03 well I told you ALL how to block the damn robots the other day. but instead, its easier for you to step up on your soapbox and have a hissy over a psbot. Well if you are so worried about the robots, and so paranoid about them indexing your site for search engines, do as suggested. Put the robots.txt file on your server. Then end of story, they wont visit you ANYMORE. as for what I said about VD laughing, Im just saying that yes there is reason to be concerned about them possibly trying to access your sites, but lets not let it bring ourselves to unreasonable measures of paranoia. I mean come on, get a life. Take precautions but dont be so paranoid. and in case any of you missed the post, and wish to block ALL ROBOTS, then take the following line. Paste it into notepad. Save the file as robots.txt Upload that file to your main folder of your web account, where all the other files go, and wala! ROBOTS NO MORE! # go away User-agent: * Disallow: / its that simple!!!!! LisaPosted: Nov 21 2003, 07:18 PM Advanced Member Group: Members Posts: 73 Member No.: 21 Joined: 6-November 03 I totally agree with you mystery. I was getting so worried, checking my site numerous times a day, blocking anything that looked the least bit suspicious. I accidentally blocked Shelly! I still feel horrible about that. Since I have put the robots.txt file in my folder it isn't so bad. AND I am not checking every 5 minutes. Make sure you have your site backed up (something we all should do anyway). its a mystery to you n mePosted: Nov 21 2003, 07:18 PM Member Group: Members Posts: 13 Member No.: 18 Joined: 6-November 03 QUOTE (Nikki @ Nov 21 2003, 07:12 PM) You are Wrong..google does not download all your images to your harddrive.. excuse me, but I did not say that googlebot downloads images to your harddrive, so get your panties out of a bunch. I am not the enemy so quit acting like it you high strung paranoid lil twit. I have tried to help you ALL in how to learn more about robots, and how to take care of blocking them, but instead, you in particular choose to ignore it and go on posting about stupid harmless robots. Re Read what you posted about the psbot. It says nowhere in that post that psbot downloads images to any harddrive. They index images for a search engine similar to the google image search,...DUHHHHH! like I said, read into stuff and study up before panicking and getting your undies all twisted up.
